Jan Stannard, M.D.Janet H. Stannard, M.D., is a Diplomate Jungian Analyst and Board Certified Psychiatrist, practicing in Little Rock, Arkansas. Originally from Great Britain, Dr. Stannard has called America home for over forty years. She graduated from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in 1985, followed by a medical internship and psychiatric residency. She is a graduate of the Inter-Regional Society of Jungian Analysts, an active member of that Society and the International Association for Analytical Psychology. She is also a founding member of the Heartland Association of Jungian Analysts.
Dr. Stannard brings to her analytic work a background in Classics, graduating from Royal Holloway College, University of London, in Latin and Greek language and literature, with specialties in Greek Philosophy and Drama, followed by graduate studies in Education, including English Literature and Religious Studies, as well as Classics. For several summers Jan participated in the archeological excavation of a Roman villa, involving the careful uncovering of one layer at a time, paralleling the process of analytic work. She taught Junior College for four years prior to coming to the USA. Dreams, like a Greek drama, tell psyche’s story. Jan led a weekly dream group for over ten years and dreams continue to play a key role in her practice. Other areas of focus include trauma, the interface between archetypal psychology and affective neuroscience, developmental psychology, incarnation of the spirit in the body and the role of spirituality in analysis. She is also a certified photo-therapist. Jan’s interests include music and the arts, photography, hiking, birdwatching, and gardening, currently landscaping with native plants, and welcoming the deer that roam along a trail on her property. She is the mother of twins and grandmother of three. |
